Physical rehabilitation center in St. Augustine, FL

Rehabilitation is the half of treatment that happens after you leave. It retrains the muscles holding an old pattern in place so the motion an adjustment restores is still there next week, and it includes the recovery therapy that supports the tissue while it changes. Dr. Sisak holds a Chiropractic Rehabilitation certification, and Amy Vanover runs this side day to day.

The half that decides whether any of it lasts

The human body is dynamic. Like all dynamic objects, it tends to break down over time. Just like our cars need their tires rotated, our joints need to move efficiently.

An adjustment restores motion to a joint that lost it. That is a real change and it is usually felt immediately. What it does not do is change the reason the joint lost its motion. If a muscle has spent two years overworking to cover for one that switched off, it is still overworking on the drive home.

Rehabilitation fills that gap. It is not an upsell attached to the end of a visit; it is the part that decides whether you are back in three weeks. the MedlinePlus overview of rehabilitation sets out what rehabilitation actually covers across medicine, and how little consistent work it takes to change what a body tolerates.

Built from findings, kept short on purpose

The most common failure in corrective exercise is a generic program: fifteen movements that are good for backs in general, handed to somebody whose specific problem is one hip that will not extend.

So the program here starts from your exam. Which segment is doing too much, which has stopped contributing, and what your day is rebuilding. Three or four targeted movements aimed at that answer outperform a comprehensive routine aimed at nobody in particular, and they survive a genuinely busy week, which is the variable that actually changes outcomes.

Everything is coached in the office before it becomes homework, because an exercise performed in the wrong pattern reinforces the problem it was prescribed to fix.

Recovery, and being honest about it

Whole body red light therapy sits on this side of the practice because it is a recovery therapy rather than a treatment for a mechanical problem.

It is a short, passive, non-invasive session that a lot of people find useful alongside a care plan, and that some notice very little from. Results vary. If your exam says the problem is mechanical and untreated, the honest advice is to spend the money on the mechanics first, and we would rather give you that advice than sell you sessions.

What sits under rehabilitation

Who this side of the practice is for

  • The same problem has come back three or four times
  • You feel good leaving the office and stiff again within days
  • Recovering from surgery or an injury and wanting to support the healing window
  • Desk work or repetitive loading keeps rebuilding the same pattern
  • Training hard and dealing with recurring soreness

Conditions this covers

Why have it done here

Dr. Sisak carries a Chiropractic Rehabilitation certification from the Midwestern Rehabilitation Institute, and this is the side of the practice that certification was for. Amy Vanover works alongside the doctors on it daily, the program is built from your own exam rather than a template, and it is kept deliberately short, because a plan nobody does is not a plan.

This is one of four sides of the practice, and the exam decides which of them you actually belong in.

Back pain
Last summer my back was in terrible shape after a day riding on a jet ski. I went to Dr. Derek and he provided some immediate relief but also introduced some critical stretch and strength techniques to help with injury prevention. 8 Months later I continue to visit once a month as continued preventative maintenance.

Questions we get asked

Is this physical therapy?

It is corrective exercise and rehabilitation delivered inside a chiropractic care plan, by a chiropractic practice. Physical therapy is a separate licensed profession, and where a course of licensed physical therapy is what you need we will refer you rather than blur the line.

Why is rehab part of the price rather than optional?

Because without it the adjusting is temporary. An adjustment changes what a joint can do; the muscles around it decide what it does do. If nothing retrains those, the tissue pulls the joint back toward the pattern it knows, which is why a good week is followed by a familiar Monday.

How much time does it take each day?

Usually less than people expect. Programs here are three or four movements rather than fifteen, because adherence beats ambition. A handful done most days outperforms a long circuit done twice and abandoned.

Where does red light therapy fit?

It supports recovery around the treatment rather than replacing it. Sessions on the TrifectaLight PRO 450 bed are short and passive, and people commonly pair one with an adjustment on the same visit. Results vary, and if it is unlikely to add much to your situation we will say so.

Do I need equipment at home?

Mostly a floor and a wall. Where a band or a light weight genuinely helps, we tell you exactly what to get rather than pointing you at a shop. Anything that needs equipment we do not expect you to own gets done in the office.
