St. Johns County

Sports medicine clinic in St. Augustine, FL

This is the performance side of the practice: screening how your body actually moves, then treating and training what the screen finds. It is built around golf, because Dr. Sisak is Titleist Performance Institute certified and the clinic sits at World Golf Parkway, and it extends to anyone whose sport keeps loading the same tissue.

Your body decides what your swing can do

There are an infinite number of ways to swing a golf club. However, there is one most-efficient way for each player to swing a club and it is based on what they can physically do.

That sentence is the whole premise of this side of the practice, and it generalises well beyond golf. A movement fault that a coach keeps correcting and that keeps returning is usually not a technique problem at all. It is a hip that will not rotate, a thoracic spine that will not extend, or a shoulder borrowing range from somewhere that should be stable, and no amount of instruction fixes a range of motion you do not have.

Most sports injuries in adults come from exactly that: repeated load through a compensation rather than a single traumatic event. the NIAMS overview of sports injuries covers the common patterns and why the ones that build slowly are the ones people ignore longest.

Screen, treat, train

The order matters. The screen finds the physical limitation. Treatment addresses what is genuinely restricted or painful. Training builds the strength and stability that keeps the restriction from reforming.

Skip the screen and you are guessing. Skip the treatment and you are training around a restriction. Skip the training and you are back in six weeks. The reason this sits inside a chiropractic practice rather than a gym is that the middle step needs somebody licensed to do it.

Starting from the ground

Custom orthotics live on this side of the practice for a reason that surprises people: the foot is the foundation, and a correction that ignores it does not hold.

When an arch collapses, the leg rotates inward, the pelvis tips, and the low back absorbs the difference. Adjusting the low back in that situation works right up until you walk to the car. Foot Levelers orthotics are scanned and built per patient to support all three arches, which is what stabilises the base the rest of the work is standing on.

What sits under sports performance

Who this side of the practice is for

  • A swing fault your coach keeps correcting that keeps coming back
  • Losing distance or consistency with no obvious technical reason
  • Low back, hip or shoulder pain that shows up during or after a round
  • Arch or gait problems undoing work done higher up the chain
  • Coming back to a sport after injury or a long layoff

Why have it done here

St. Johns County is a golf county and nobody local is positioned on it. Dr. Sisak holds the Titleist Performance Institute Medical Level 3 certification, the clinic sits at World Golf Parkway minutes from World Golf Village, and the treatment side is the same building, so a restriction the screen finds gets treated rather than emailed to somebody else.

This is one of four sides of the practice, and the exam decides which of them you actually belong in.

Questions we get asked

Do I have to be a golfer?

No. Golf is where the certification and the photography come from, and it is what most people here arrive for, but a movement screen is a movement screen. Tennis, pickleball, running and lifting all produce the same pattern: one tissue loaded the same way repeatedly until something further up or down the chain compensates for it.

Is this coaching or treatment?

Treatment and training, not coaching. We assess your body, treat what is restricted, and build the strength and mobility work that removes the physical limitation. Your coach then teaches a change your body is finally capable of making. The two roles are deliberately separate and work best in that order.

Does insurance cover performance work?

Generally no. Performance screening is not a covered medical service, and Medicare Part B covers only manual spinal manipulation to correct a subluxation. Most people use an in-house care or wellness plan, or CareCredit financing. Where a screen uncovers a genuine injury, that part of care follows the normal path.

How is this different from a gym program?

Targeting. General strength and conditioning is good for you and untargeted; a screen tells you which twenty percent of it will actually change how you move. If your lead hip has twenty degrees less rotation than your trail hip, no amount of general training addresses that specifically.

Can custom orthotics really affect my swing?

They affect the foundation the swing is built on. When an arch collapses the leg rotates inward and the pelvis tips, and everything above it compensates. Whether that is a factor for you is exactly what the exam and the scan are for, and sometimes the honest answer is that your feet are fine.
